Yes, we have diplomas from Wharton. After a week (sure there’s some fine print, but…). Yes, we made some lifelong friends. Yes, we learned a lot about finance. And yes, we adore Philadelphia. We began our love letter last week while we were in the midst of our financial boot camp/business school adventure…. The last few days there, after a day of classes, we jogged from the Four Seasons on Logan Circle past the Rodin Museum and the famous “Thinker” sculpture to the absurdly beautiful steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. With some endorphins flowing and an even greater appreciation for the beauty of Philadelphia, we gussied up for a last night out on the town. Which went something like this…. bowling (yes, bowling. Lucy is secretly very good.) at Lucky Strike, the best lobster rolls outside of Maine at the chic yet comfortable Oyster House restaurant and very fancy science experiment like cocktails at Franklin Mortgage and Investment Company. Franklin Mortgage Co. is a “speakeasy” and has somewhat bizarre rules– like everyone has to be seated– but once we got past the initial lengthy discussion with the gentleman at the door, we had fun swilling painstakingly crafted cocktails (no vodka, fyi) in the dim room that in the 1920s served as the front for the largest alcohol ring in the country. You might imagine (correctly) that the next morning, class felt a little more challenging. Yet we persevered. And left with our diplomas in hand and friendships to last a lifetime.
