Isla Mujeres, Mexico
We discovered this small island whose name translates to, “the Island of the Women,” just off the coast of Cancun through an astrologist of all people. It is meant to be an incredibly mystical island and it has an interesting history of pirates leaving their women on the island while they plundered and pirated. Isla Mujeres makes a perfect one night stop over on your way to or from Tulum which is one of our favorite beaches and located two hours south of the Cancun International Airport. Isla is only 20 minutes from the airport. While on the island, Villa Rolandi is the only place to stay in our opinion and well worth the splurge. Villa Rolandi is a lovely 35 room resort that captures and blends fun and tranquility through hot tubs that light up on every suite’s balcony and orange leather headboards in the spacious suites, juxtaposed with three pools, a private beach and restaurant perched above the waves.
