Oh, oh the CHATEAU

The Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood is our favorite place for lunch, dinner and long wine soaked evenings enveloped by Hollywood history both old and in the making.  It is now our favorite place for a "stay-cation"- a vacation in your own town!  We had a day fit for sybarites last Saturday where we enjoyed wine with lunch in the outdoor courtyard that is outfitted with velvet armchairs, antique tables and Persian carpets before slipping up to our suite with a balcony overlooking the Sunset Strip and all of Los Angeles.  We loved our suite but one tip to those booking, the suites that end with a 9 (59, 69, etc) are the ones that overlook the courtyard below and get the sun all day long….  next time we're asking for 69!  After enjoying the pool we had a festive dinner down below flanked by the cast of "Glee" and the Oscar winning documentary director, Louie Psihoyos of "The Cove," which we recently blogged about.  We stayed up way too late drinking wine with old friends and making some new ones and were relieved we only had to slip upstairs to our fluffy beds outfitted with European linens.  We met the following morning with breakfast on our balcony not wanting to leave!!  The staff at the Chateau is worth mentioning- they are friendly and professional and discrete– the Chateau after all has been keeping Hollywood's secrets for decades.

I booked a one night “staycation” here after reading your blog for my boyfriend and I for his birthday….I’ve lived in California forever — from Santa Monica (but have also lived in Maine 4 years for college, 2 years in NYC and 2 years in San Francisco) but now am hopefully going to stay settled around LA. So anyway, I have eaten dinner here but never stayed! I do remember loving the vibe. Now, I don’t know if I am really getting this present for him or for me! But I think he’ll enjoy it once he gets there. He is originally from Ireland and kind of has the no frills Irish roots still in him even though he is becoming an Angeleno. Do you think its a good place to celebrate a birthday ( I just want to stay local and not spend for a whole weekend getaway somewhere)So just one night. Whatcha think? Sally

Fun! It is definitely expensive, but old school Hollywood (with some of the new guard usually on hand). We went for a fun lunch in the courtyard, swim in the pool and then cocktails on our balcony before a later dinner (it doesn’t seem to get busy downstairs until around 8:45/9ish). As we wrote, the suites that end in a 9– all overlook the courtyard, get sun all day and face West… Maybe worth the splurge? Have fun!!! xoxo
