5 Ways To Tap Into Your Intuition by Gianna de la Torre

I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we all have the ability to be intuitive. I witness it every single day with my patients, friends and family. Your intuition is a core part of yourself, not a foreign sixth sense saved for oracles and mystics.  I think of intuition as a muscle.  If you never exercise it, it will be weak and lack definition.  But if you take that muscle to the gym five days a week, you will notice it growing in ways you didn’t think were possible.  Tapping into our intuition requires us to think outside the box, but not as far out as you might think.

People often ask me if I can tell the future, as if that’s all it takes to be intuitive.  While it may be a fun party trick, the answer is, not really.  In my humble opinion, the future is in a constant state of flux with infinite possibilities.  Intuition is most interesting to me when it comes down to reading vibrations.  That may sound complicated but bear with me.

At the most basic level, all matter is simply vibration.  Every thought we think and word we speak also creates a specific vibration.  This statement is supported by quantum physics.  German physicist and founder of Quantum Theory, Max Planck, said, “all matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force is the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.

By strengthening our intuition we also strengthen our ability to consciously direct the vibrations we emanate into the world.  The benefit of this is that we are able to consciously create our life experience rather than feel victim to it.

Practice these 5 steps to strengthen your ability to connect  to your intuitive voice:

  1. Recognize the ways you have always been intuitive.

You might feel inclined to dodge this invitation and claim, “I’m not intuitive!”  I encourage you to dig deeper.  Some people have a keen ability to recognize the needs of others, while others experience “gut feelings” about decisions that need to be made.  You most likely take this aspect of yourself for granted, so think hard.  While I may have been a skeptical and science minded young person, from a young age I had an ability to perceive how others were feeling without asking.  For much of my life I labeled myself as judgmental, little did I know this is my intuitive strength.

2.    Define your blocks

What are your preconceived biases about what it means to be intuitive?  Were you raised in a family where intuition was embraced?

I would argue that intuition comes easier to women.  For hundreds of years women were oppressed and even burned at the stake for practicing magic or accessing intuitive skills.   In patriarchal society there isn’t much room for the discussion of the unseen or unexplained.  What is stopping you from thinking it’s possible to be intuitive?  Once you’ve identified your blocks, it’s easier to let them go.

3.    Meditate

There is no better way to connect to your inner wisdom than to get quiet and listen.  If you stumble upon a difficult decision or challenging situation, close your eyes, take deep breaths, and ask for clarity.   Keep your attention focused and perhaps even repeat a question in your mind.  What answers arise?

4.    Trust

The most simple, but perhaps the most difficult!  Do you have the courage to trust what your intuition is telling you?  If not, what is stopping you from listening?  Often hindsight is 20/20.  We’ll think to ourselves, “I knew I shouldn’t have dated that guy,” or “I knew I shouldn’t have taken that job.”  I know this is easier said than done.

5.    Share your experiences with others

Talking about your experiences makes them real.  If you have an intuitive experience, tell a friend!  You might find that they have similar experiences. By doing this, you create a dialogue.   It’s often easier to see clearly for someone else than it is for yourself.  Creating a community around you in which you can openly share your intuitive gifts encourages personal growth and honesty among all parties!
