A weekend in ANNAPOLIS

Despite the fact that we grew up in DC and Annapolis is only a quick 30 minute drive, my time there was limited to water-skiing expeditions on the Severn River during college summers with my friend Winship. Before Winship's wedding this weekend I had never had an excuse to really explore  Annapolis, which is truly a perfect historic, nautical town that feels like a hybrid of Charleston, SC and a quaint little New England sea town - two of my favorite places.

We were short on time but still managed to pack a lot in. Highlights were a decadent lunch at McGarvey's, located in the action on Market Space. We had heard from several Annapolis natives that this was the place to go for the best crab dip and crab cakes. We were not disappointed and also enjoyed an amazing seafood chowder. After lunch we walked around the cute dockside area stopping in the Helly Hansen store to check out the latest sailing gear, Capital Teas, and Kilwin's for ice cream.  Pusser's is the place to have sunset cocktails on the water, and for late night festivities we were led by the wedding party to O'Briens and The Federal House.

On my next trip to Annapolis, I look forward to checking out the National Sailing Hall of Fame, walking around the Naval Academy campus, and getting out on the water in one of the many boats that are available for rent.
