With relaxed decadedence at the Farmhouse Inn and Spa in the Russian River Valley, CA
We love businesses owned and run by siblings. We love wine country. We love spas. We love fine dining. We love boho chic that tips just over into being pretty luxe. For all of these reasons, we love the Farmhouse Inn & Spa.
We've been wanting to visit since they made their way onto a radar a few years ago. Finally, the stars aligned and we had a delightful, indulgent and restorative evening there just after Thanksgiving. Driving up from San Francisco along the coast so that we could have lunch at one of our favorite spots in the world, Nick's Cove on Tomales Bay, we arrived at the Farmhouse Inn at dusk. Check in was one of the lovelier experiences where we were plied with local wine, fresh pressed cider and presented with a "spa bar" where we could help ourselves to whichever bath salts, scrubs and soaps that appealed.
Beverages and spa goods in hand, we ooohed and aahed as we ventured into our rooms (we stayed in Barn Rooms #15 and #18). The vaulted beamed ceilings were rustic yet chic and were complimented by the four poster beds that beckoned. Double sided fireplaces that flickered at the foot of the beds, also shed light and warmth to the private porches and awaiting Adirondack chairs. The rooms are superbly decorated with OLY tables and lamps and Lee Industries slip covered furniture. We found ourselves taking pictures in the rooms as design inspiration for our own homes! The bathrooms are also magnanimous with enormous soaking tubs looking out onto the deck and fireplace, separate showers and heated marble floors.
After splashing around in the tub, sipping wine fireside and basking in the general delightfulness of the rooms, we ventured over to the original Farmhouse where the Michelin starred restaurant is located. We have too much to say about the wine paired dinner extravaganza we experienced, so a whole blog will be dedicated to that and Chef Steve Litke later this week! After said extravaganza, we waddled back to our rooms unable to indulge in the complimentary homemade marshmallow, Valhrona chocolate and gourmet graham cracker s'mores packets provided -- we had planned to sit around the fire pit, yet....
The next morning, greeted by the Farmhouse cats, Charlotte and Jasper, who are friendly little hosts, we somehow found ourselves back in the restaurant for a decadent complimentary breakfast. Self serve coffee, tea, juice and water are offered before a served multi-course breakfast feast. Which was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. Ever. We planned to only have one churro each. Oh well. And we might of had to try the pancakes in addition to enjoying delicious scrambled eggs with fresh herbs.
Undoubtedly a few pounds heavier in body, we felt lighter in spirit after such a cozy, pampering stay.
