Big Sur equals big views, big love, big meals
Big Sur, CA is without question one of the most physically beautiful and dramatic spots on earth. Unfortunately we're not letting you in on a secret-- over this past long weekend and Valentine's Day many a romantic turned out to hike, take in the views, and dine at the exquisite restaurants. Even so, Big Sur was inspiring, peaceful and a great place to reconnect with myself and Napper. Although I am dying to stay at the famed Post Ranch Inn, when I searched for rooms they were offering rates at around $1000/night!! Yikes. So, I searched on www.vrbo.com and found a cute little cabin compound nestled in the mountains.
As most of the hotels in town are extremely expensive, renting a house seems like the best way to go. Be sure that if you want to have dinner "in town" (really just a stretch of the Pacific Coast Hwy with a few businesses housed in cabins), that you make sure that you are within ten minutes driving time tops-- those windy roads clinging to cliffs can be a little daunting a night.
Our highlights from the trip were dinner and breakfast pastries from the Big Sur Bakery- cozy setting with outstanding food that was so fresh and friendly service; dinner at the before mentioned Post Ranch Inn which was spectacular and we figured out who can stay here as we bumped into an A list moviestar and her boyfriend as we were leaving; the many hikes in and out of dense forest as well as hovering above the Pacific; and last but not least a session with a shaman! Jon Rasmussen is a shaman who explained to us that certain limiting beliefs, myths, old stories can get trapped on a deeper level-- he helps release them. For someone like me who has read a gazillion books a la "The Secret," been in therapy for years but still felt like there were roadblocks, Jon and his work made sense. He is a lovely man and our session was incredibly intense -- in a good way!
I can't wait to go back to Big Sur... on a non-holiday weekend and maybe win the lottery and get to stay at the Post Ranch Inn!
