CLEANSING update
So after that write up we did about a month ago of all of those quite rigorous cleanses, I have wound up reverting to an old classic with a twist! For the record, Organic Avenue -- their cleanse with the food, looked fantastic and I tried to order it but they are not set up for anywhere outside of NYC and the Hamptons. So in my efforts to want to cleanse, feel sleek and get rid of my summer bloat caused by reckless abandonment where fried delights, ice cream and lobster rolls were concerned, I pulled out my old copy of The South Beach Diet by Dr. Arthur Agatston.
Before my wedding three and a half years ago, my now husband Napper and I both did it together and I have to say, 1. It is easy! You can eat tons of delicious things. and 2. It works! Granted I make some modifications like drinking regular coffee in the morning and still have some wine -- let's not lose our heads-- but I still have had amazing results. And fast. I started Phase One last week and literally shed three and a half pounds in a week and just felt less puffy-- granted, I'm sure some of it is water weight, what have you, but who cares? And more importantly, my stomach which is rather sensitive, has been cool as a cucumber leaving me with the obvious conclusion that my body does not process particularly well rich foods, lots of bread, pasta, etc. Tragic on the one hand.
A typical day on Phase One (the hardest period meant to last two weeks):
BREAKFAST
scrambled eggs (I use three and only one yolk) with spinach, mushrooms and low fat cheese
coffee with 1% milk
SNACK
handful of almonds (only 15/day)
LUNCH
big salad with grilled fish or chicken and tons of veggies, cheese and dressing (I like olive oil, vinegar with a garlic clove pressed, salt and pepper, all whisked together)
SNACK
celery and hummus or a low fat string cheese
DINNER
Grilled steak and zucchini with a big salad
(and I am naughty, but I have a glass of wine with dinner!!)
I know I sound like a paid advertisement, but am just sharing how much better I feel.
Now, here's the twist. A good friend has tried the Dr. Natura cleanse which is meant to clean out toxins and chemicals that wind up in our bodies-- it just arrived and I am going to try it starting today. It's basically a bunch of supplements and teas, but I do think it's good to scrub things out once a year. Will let you know how it goes!
Here's to health and happiness!!
