Eating and Drinking in San Francisco!
We kicked off our Napa research trip (we're making our very own chardonnay!!) with a night in San Francisco. Some great friends live in this lovely city and took us out to some delicious spots-- San Fran really is a foodie heaven.
A 16 is a bustling and cozy yet elegant Italian spot in the Marina. Authentic Neapolitan pizzas, fresh pastas, burrata... Yum!
As we only had one night, we divided and conquered to cover more ground. While Mary feasted on Italian delights at A 16, Lucy also dined at the charming Italian inspired restaurant SPQR on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights.
The food at SPQR is exceptional and the atmosphere lively but ambient. All the dishes sampled: sformato corn custard, snow peas, white shrimp, pea shoots in a corn cob broth; totelli kale & goat cheese filled pasta, pine nuts, riccata salata and a torta chocolate & condensed milk cake, malt, coconut and passion fruit for dessert-- were divine.
Lu had a quiet after dinner drink at Spruce. The bartendress Jo, was a highlight and the open, dimly lit setting makes for an upscale, comfortable experience.
We joined forces the next morning for breakfast at Ella's. The biscuits are famous here- for good reason. There is a feeling of the South which permeates the relaxed setting and is infused into the sophisticated breakfast fare. Who knew chicken hash and eggs could be so, so good?
Til we meet again SF! xox
