Eating & Drinking our way through downtown NYC!
As we've been chronicaling our NYC adventures that were more short-lived than we would have liked (only 2 days!), we still managed to discover some new restaurants and bars as well as visit some old favorites.
EAT
Keith McNally's rustic Italian restaurant is the perfect lunch spot in the heart of the West Village. We sat on the sidewalk patio and enjoyed salads and an open faced foccacia "sandwiches" with a glass of rose taking in the sites and sounds of one of our favorite NYC neighborhoods.
Owned by the same folks who run Firestone Sister fave Joseph Leonard in the West Village, we discovered Jeffrey's Grocery just catty corner to Joseph Leonard while we waited for our table there. After settling into the bar area on stools in the window with jelly jars full of the most delightful Bacchus' Cup cocktail-- vodka, strawberries, Lillet Blanc, ginger, mint and rose cava, we decided to stay for dinner and were not disappointed. We shared lobster pasta, english peas with burrata, prosciutto and mint, and salads. Love this place!!
Almond
Although it has been open for a couple years, Almond was new to me and the perfect, somewhat central place to meet a friend coming from the Upper East Side. Located in the Flatiron district this American bistro with French infusions serves delicious food. We enjoyed oysters and the most amazing fresh shrimp scampi with large shrimp, peas, and arugula in a white wine butter sauce. Besides this amazing dish, my favorite thing about Almond was its warm atmosphere - with distressed wood accents, hardwood floors, pressed tin ceilings and votive candlelight. A welcome refuge in the bustling area.

DRINK
This wine bar in the West Village is a great spot for an after dinner drink. Leather banquettes and lots of seating at the bar...
The cool little bar of this restaurant beckoned on a warm night-- with all the gigantic windows opened to the night air of Nolita, we felt like we might be in a charming bar on a side street in Paris. Somehow we haven't noticed Tartinery which has been open for about two years and occupies the space that Tracy Feith used to be in -- or next door. We'll be back for juices (which get rave reviews) and to try the food.
the room
One of our old standbys on Sullivan St. in Soho, the room is a dark moody little bar that has been serving beer and wine only for over a decade.
Highlands
A Prepster hangout, we like this bar in the West Village. We discovered it during last holiday season which is when its Scottish theme shines best and brightest.
