Gianna is hosting a workshop on Healing Yourself Naturally through Essential Oils June 1st for free in LA-- check it out. As a warm up, we asked Gianna some pointed questions in light of the arrival of summer!
1. Now that summer is upon us, are there specific oils that are helpful for sunburns and blisters compliments of style-y sandals?
Essential oils are great for skin irritations. For blisters, wash the effected area, drain the blister with a disinfected needles, then apply Lavender and Melaleuca (tea tree) oils to the effected area. Repeat until pain and irritation has resolved.
For sunburns, add 20 drops of peppermint and 20 drops of lavender to a small spray bottle and spritz the effected area. The Lavender calms the skin and the peppermint cools the burn. If the burn is severe add 20 drops of lavender and 20 drops of frankincense to a small container of coconut oil (fractionated is preferred). If there is blistering add melaleuca to the salve.
2. Summer is all about fun and love! Oils that "attract" the opposite sex/open our hearts?
When it comes to romance, I recommend oils made from flowers for women and oils made from wood for men. Flirtatious floral oils include ylang ylang, rose, clary sage, and jasmine. Woodsy masculine scents include sandalwood and rosewood.
3. What oils might help get you pregnant?
You may think these oils aren't strong enough to make a difference when it comes to pregnancy, but think again! I have treated several fertility patients with essential oils and had great success. For women, Oregano, Lemon, and Melaleuca ensures that there is no candida overgrowth in the body (in addition to a healthy diet of course). Bergamont, Clary Sage, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, and Cassia (cinnamon) all help the female reproductive system function optimally. For men Basil, Clary Sage, Sandalwood, and Thyme work to increase sperm count and viability.
4. Are there oils that might help with jet lag?
For jet lag, you want to use calming oils during the hours that you'd like your body to sleep and elevating oils when you'd rather be awake. First, balance your system by putting a few drops of lemon essential oil in your water to help detox from your travels/airplane food. To go to sleep take a bath with several drops of lavender and geranium, you can also apply a few drops of each under the nose. To wake up use a few drops of peppermint in your water and apply at the back of neck and temples. To increase focus, try Vetiver and Wild Orange.
Thank you, Gianna!! xoxo
