Getting out of MAMMOTH, CA. Stuck!!

We thought we'd figured out a genius way to travel back and forth from LA to the ski resort Mammoth (normally a 5-6 hour drive)-- flying!  Coming up on Friday afternoon was seamless.  No lines at the airport, complimentary wine and beer on the Horizon flight which you can get for as low as $39 one way if you purchase in advance, and we hopped off the free shuttle at the Tamarack Lodge ready to hit the town.  All in all it was a 3 hour trip.  Brilliant!

HOWEVER.  We are actually currently sitting in the Starbucks in the Village at Mammoth.  Our flight last night was canceled due to high winds (it is usually windy in Mammoth) after we had cleared security and were exhausted after the fun weekend ready to board the plane and get home.  This was not going to happen.  There was a panic at the airport as we rushed to rebook for a flight out Monday as there was nary a rental car in sight to be had.  After successfully rebooking for on the 1:55pm flight today, we boarded the Mammoth shuttle bus and waited for an hour for other passengers to sort themselves out....

Finally we arrived  back in Mammoth and luckily had the keys to a friend's condo in the Village so had a place to stay.  After dinner at Smokeyard which was the perfect low key, casual environment with pizzas and great salads, we collapsed into bed--- despite our travel woes the weekend was a fantastic celebration of Napper's birthday -- we'll report on the good stuff tomorrow!!

Today, we sit and wait and hope that this flight will get out....  If it doesn't we are screwed as there are still no rental cars anywhere nearby and even U-Haul (brilliant idea from the Enterprise guy) is sold out of their vans.  Will keep you posted-- please keep your fingers crossed for us!!  As the wind kicks up in Mammoth.....
