Jetsetter Style: Q + A with the man behind NTANDY belts, Napper Tandy!
An accessory that doesn't belong to a certain clique, ntandy belts add a pop of color to the waistlines of both rockstars and prepsters alike. The ultra-conservative and the achingly hip can put their partisan beliefs aside and come together over ntandy. A belt made from colorful (surf) boardshort material that is functional and fashionable all at once.
We asked Napper Tandy, the man behind ntandy (and full disclosure: Mary's husband), a few pertinent questions....
1. As your mission statement declares, "ntandy exists out of a ravenous appetite for recreating and the desire for clothing that represents it," what are some of your favorite places for recreating?
On one of my annual male bonding trips to keep friendships stoked we hit the slopes of Crested Butte, CO. Two spots that are always on the roster post slope recreating are The Secret Stash for incredibly eclectic, gourmet pizzas and The Slogar for fried chicken, cottage cheese and gravy. After dinner, Kochevars is the place to soak up some local flavor over libations and revel in the spirit of the infamous Butch Cassidy, who was a faithful patron years ago.
For a more relaxed state of mind, Mary and I visit the alma mater of our nuptials, Harbour Island in the sultry, sunny Bahamas. My favorite places to stay there are The Dunmore for a more refined retreat, and Ocean View Club for a more bohemian vibe.
2. You're a stylish guy. What are your favorite places to shop?
I do most of my shopping online, but I like Unionmade, and Deus ex Machina in Venice, CA, but I actually discovered it in Bali.
3. Is there any style trend for women that you think is hot? Not hot?
Less is more when it comes to make-up. I love my wife in a pair of jeans a tank top.
4. With Christmas (unbelievably already!) around the corner, what are some surefire gifts to make the men in our lives swoon?
A true man of recreating requires a Go Pro camera to capture his exploits. I want the Wolverine 1000 Mile boots. Il Bisonte makes great wallets. A vintage Omega Speedmaster watch. A Reigning Champ sweater or jacket-- I like the Shawl Neck Cardigan- the most complimented item I own. Baxter grooming products make great stocking stuffers.
And in our opinion the ntandy belts make a sporty and stylish gift as well!
