Burn 60 is amazing when you’re ready to sweat and want to feel toned in a hurry. While they also offer Pilates and spinning classes, the 60-minute full-body treadmill workouts are our mainstay. They consist of intervals of alternating 10 or 15-minute sessions on the treadmill with weight and resistance exercises on the floor. For someone like Mary who dreads a lengthy run, breaking it up as they do is not only excellent for your body, but much more manageable emotionally and mentally! The pumping music keeps you going as well as the fun trainers. Julie Diamond, Sonya Roosendaal, Michelle Lovitt and Christina Malizia are a couple of our favorites. This is a workout for everyone as the trainers call out different speeds for different levels (walkers, joggers, runners). No excuses!
Yoga Works

We both learned yoga at YogaWorks and it definitely has something for the most novice students to the most advanced yogis. While there are several YogaWorks studios scattered around California and now New York, we normally go to the Main Street and Montana studios in Santa Monica. Sara Ivanhoe’s class is our favorite, as she offers the perfect blend of an intense workout and enlightened perspective accompanied by upbeat, but not distracting music. For you New Yorkers, check out the just opened and beautiful new studio in Soho on the corner of Broadway and Grand.

If you’re a Venice local and pressed for time and needing a good workout, a 45-minute spin class at Yas is a great option. Spinning can be a little intense and as an ice hockey player, Lucy’s always been a little wary of anything that might make her thighs more muscular, but always feels refreshed after a spin class here. They also have an hour long Yoga for Athletes class which is great to stretch out and refocus – which can be hard to remember to do.
