Tamarack Lodge at Mammoth Mountain delivers cozy mountain charm
We've been going to Mammoth since we moved out here years ago. A top notch ski resort within driving distance of LA-- sold. Well actually, I wasn't sold entirely (beyond the skiing) until this last weekend. I decided to dig a little deeper and found that cute, mountain vibe I had been longing for that the Village seemed to lack in all of it's slick newness. Don't get me wrong, the Village is certainly nice and quite fancy-- fancier than ever actually with the newly opened Hyde (yes, a sibling to Hyde Lounge in Hollywood). But what I love about a winter weekend is the whole cozy log cabin vibe and I hadn't been able to find it until this visit.
The Tamarack Lodge oozes the rustic charm I have been looking for! Napper and I went for a decadent dinner in the intimate wood-paneled Lakefront Restaurant at the lodge with one of the coolest down to earth local waitresses ever this last Saturday night. The steak and miso cod were the two best dishes we've ever had in Mammoth. The wine list was impressive (maybe too....) and the huge roaring fireplace in the "lobby," more like living room, where guests were playing backgammon and reading was hard to leave. I can't wait to return and stay in one of the recently renovated cabins.
