Tirovino-- a brand new intimate Italian wine bar on Melrose with the best pizza outside of Italy!
We are passionate about investigating new restaurants and an "Italian wine bar" sounded right up our alley. We were not disappointed! Tirovino opened just one week ago and is the collaboration of Sicilian restaurateur Maurizio La Rosa and Florentine chef Davide Giani. Both men take great pride in their Italian roots and the menu and food reflect their passion and dedication to delivering the most authentic and delicious cuisine from their childhoods.
The setting is intimate-- particularly the front patio with black and white Italian films projected on a bare wall, opposite cozy couches flanking white marble topped tables.
We also love the long dining table in the back anchored by two fabulous wing-backed armchairs (that we'd like for our houses!). A perfect setting for a group dinner.
They also have two flatscreen TVs behind the bar for your sports fans who'd like a more sophisticated spot to take in the game... Or for the Golden Globes and Oscar night!
All of the cool, chic decor is just the backdrop to the divine food. The straight up "Pizza" with tomato sauce, burrata and oregano is honestly the best pizza we have had outside of Italy. It is the traditional thin crust and we are somewhat obsessed with it. The Arancini-- a small plate-- which is crispy rice croquettes filled with braised beef, peas and mozzarella cheese were as good as they sound and the pappardelle pasta with braised wild boar was sinful. We absolutely overate as everything was just that good. And then the desserts! Even though we could have been rolled out, we indulged in bites of the traditional tiramisu made without ladyfingers-- just creamy marscapone cheese and amaretto, and the BEST thing we have ever had, "Fritella" which are basically warm sugary doughnut holes with just a hint of lemon.... Yum!!
It was a decadent night of Italian cuisine and we only wish it were around the corner from us Westsiders so we could go weekly. West Hollywood is lucky to have such a delectable new kid on the block (7166 Melrose Ave - on block West of La Brea).
