True Food Kitchen- healthy food that tastes naughty in a stylish setting in Santa Monica.
The new mall in Santa Monica off the promenade has been getting lots of hype and attention and it is one of the nicest malls we've ever seen. True. But friends going to the mall for drinks and dinner... we don't know. Doesn't feel that cool to hit the mall at night to go to an expensive wine bar. Just feels all wrong. However, True Food Kitchen is located on 2nd St. on the ground floor of the mall with huge windows out to a patio area with lots of foliage and the street beyond. And with complimentary 3 hour valet parking just in front. Aside from being on the border of the mall, True Food Kitchen doesn't feel like you're in the mall at all.
And once you're inside, the cheery yellow lacquered walls, green apple subway tiles, modern pendant lamps and banquettes are a sleek, clean and upbeat backdrop to the healthy yet delicious fare. Sort of like being at a spa dining room with wine.... True Food Kitchen is all about flavorful, tasty food that is well balanced, nutritious and fresh which leaves you feeling better. Their manta:
A Balanced Approach for Optimal Health
Our entire menu is centered on the principals of Dr. Andrew Weil’s Anti-Inflammatory Diet & Food Pyramid.
According to Dr. Weil: “Following an anti-inflammatory diet can help counteract the chronic inflammation that is a root cause of many serious diseases, including those that become more frequent as people age. It is a way of selecting and preparing foods based on science that can help people achieve and maintain optimum health over their lifetime.”
The menu has so many tantalizing options that we can't wait to return. We can recommend the Edamame Dumplings as divine and drizzled in truffle oil, and the steak tacos were satisfying and hearty without being heavy. The tuscan kale salad was good but if you're not into kale, collard greens and the like, skip it....
Apparently they serve a mean brunch as well-- egg white sandwiches, Johnny Cakes made from quinoa, antioxidant muffins-- who knew being healthy could taste so good?!
