A hotel find in the heart of West Hollywood-- CHAMBERLAIN

We have been to and checked out most of the hotels in West Hollywood-- the Chateau Marmont, Mondrian, Argyle, London, Standard-- but last week when celebrating our cousin's engagement at a house up in the Hollywood Hills, Napper and I thought it would be prudent and more fun to stay nearby rather than take taxis from Malibu which would cost almost as much as a hotel room.  All of the above mentioned hotels were selling rooms for close to $400/night and the Standard appeals to a younger crowd who put up with noise and apparently not the spic and span-est of rooms.  What to do?  Cut to the Chamberlain hotel.

Chamberlain opened its doors in 2005 but its recent renovation a few months ago is what put it on our map.  Interior designer Leslie Barrett's aesthetic is "a modern-day interpretation of 1970s and 1980s-era contemporary glamour...  with a palette of cool hues including periwinkle and cream, with accents of gold, dark chocolate and bronze."  The rooms are huge- like apartments, and because the hotel is situated in a residential neighborhood a block and a half off of sunset, our windows looked out onto mature trees that lined the street.  I also loved the gas-log fireplace (each room has one!).  The newly renovated bathrooms are modern but warm with three different kinds of marble, spacious showers and Neil George products.

The Bistro-- which is located on the first floor is sexily decorated with peacock colored, ostrich leather banquettes and dramatic lanterns dropped from the ceiling which is draped with vibrant striped fabric.  Chef Jonathan Peters, a veteran of two of our favorite restaurants in LA, Anisette and Church & State, brings it once again.  They have 24 hour room service-- we loved the Cheese and Charcuterie plate.  Breakfast in the Bistro the next morning was delicious but did take awhile (the kitchen gets busy with the room service orders).  The Breakfast Sandwich was delightful!!

The rooftop pool is small, but a lovely spot to hang out with stunning views of Hollywood.  There is also a small fitness center that is well equipped with state of the art, new machines.

Considering the rate for the room (which was actually a suite!) was $214, I think this hotel is a GEM.  I scored this rate during one of their 48 hour sales so call reservations and find out when their next one is.
