Absolute best kept secret spot for lunch in MALIBU-- THE GODMOTHER of MALIBU
We've spent a lot of time in Malibu and thought we knew of every possible restaurant worth knowing about. And then we read about a place called The Godmother of Malibu that serves gourmet lunch in a tranquil setting just a stone's throw from the hustle bustle and long lines of Cross Creek. We've been trying to go for several weeks, but often think of it on a Sunday when they are closed.
We finally made it for lunch on Saturday and it is our new favorite lunch spot in the vicinity by far! Located in the Malibu Racquet Club behind the Civic Center, we were worried we might be walking into a private club. Lo and behold, upstairs in the Racquet Club, is the Godmother headquarters. Pick a table on the sunny patio with the Malibu hillside behind you, tennis (frankly quite advanced tennis from what we saw) courts to one side and the cutest black and white cat and corgi making the rounds. The lunch menu has tons of variety and the two sandwiches we shared were both delicious-- the turkey burger was not dry at all (how they often are served) and had a heavenly sauteed onion/spread. The curried chicken salad is equally good. We saw some desserts going past us that we're excited to try next time. And they serve beer and wine if you're looking for a European style lunch. The Godmother is also a caterer -- in fact, when you go to the site, it looks like that's all they do.
So the cat is out of the bag! Enjoy.
Lunch is served Tuesday through Saturday until 3pm.
