Beaching, Basking, and Bonding at Bacara

Due to the arrival of my awesome little nephew, Ever, my mom spent a couple weeks in LA this Summer. To have a little quality time just the two of us, we stole away to Bacara for a one night getaway.  The facilities are gorgeous and luxurious and lived up to the resort's esteemed reputation.  However, even though we visited on a Sunday night the resort seemed to be bursting at the seams.

The beach is definitely the least fancy part of Bacara, but we are beach girls at heart. We sought refuge from the crowds, and screaming children that dominated the pool areas and got simple sandwiches and beach chairs and relaxed to the lull of crashing waves. We did venture to the hot tub for a little pre-dinner soak and were quickly making friends in a full tub.

The food at Bacara is delicious! Miro, the resort's most elegant restaurant, was closed so we dined al fresco, under many heat lamps, at The Bistro. It was our night to go for it - we split the buffet so we could enjoy the raw bar feast and also an amazing shrimp fettuccine- one of the best I have ever had and I am a connoisseur of shrimp pasta.  We took our share of the decadent dessert spread back to the room where we indulged in them along with a glass of complementary Firestone Merlot! Mother-daughter bonding done right!

The rooms are lovely- well appointed in Spanish Colonial style with wood accents, and very spacious. All rooms have gas fireplaces, a private patio or balcony, deep soaking tubs and separate marble showers. Truly delightful!

The grounds are beautiful and I went on an inspiring nature walk through the property, along the sea cliffs and down to the beach. Access to the beach and being  close to the ocean is what made Bacara  particularly special for me.

Large resorts have their benefits-- decadent facilities and lots of options, but they also come with the guests that fill them.
