New hot spot in Culver City! CORNER DOOR is open for business.

Corner Door

Culver City, particularly "Culver West," has been booming over the last few years with openings of hip foodie restaurants A Frame and Waterloo & City.  Well there's another hot spot on the block that we love.  Corner Door opened it's doors on the corner of Washington Blvd and Wasatch Ave. about a month ago.  We were there that first week when the owners were aflutter yet the awkward kinks of newness that plague many a brand new establishment were absent.  The bartender was on top of things, friendly and suggested the most delicious cocktails-- we highly recommend the Queen's Park Swizzle made with rum, lime, mint, sugar, and house strawberry bitters, as well as the Paloma if tequila is your thing-- tequila, lime, grapefruit soda, and red pepper salt.  To be honest, all the cocktails look enticing!

And happily the food is just as good so nobody floats away in a haze of boozed up glory.  Some menu standouts from Chef Luke Reyes (Tasting Kitchen) are the fried brussel sprouts with feta, grilled asparagus and burrata with fried egg and cilantro pistachio pesto, steak and fries with salsa verde, and pan roasted wild salmon with creamed corn, padrons, and english peas.  And the desserts are knock outs as well!  Horchata soaked almond cake with "dulce de leche", salted caramel ice cream, anyone?  Or nectarine crisp?

Happy to also report when we popped in again last weekend, they were busy with a cool crowd and the owners and staff were still as upbeat, friendly and on top of it all.  We're happy places like this exist and are doing well!  We'll be back.
