Cleansing after summer debauchery
After a summer of cocktails, snack bar food and ice cream we are feeling the need to cleanse! A few of the programs we are thinking about tackling:
We love Gwyneth and her blog and site, GOOP. The Clean Program gets high marks from her. Sounds a little intense and is sort of pricey, but if it works....
We've tried Dr. Bieler's Broth before when we have wanted to feel sleek (it has properties that depuff and purify)-- just substitute the broth for lunch, dinner or a snack-- or all three if you're feeling ambitious!
Dr. Bieler's Health Broth
Adapted from "Food is Your Best Medicine" (see below)
Wonderful for a Fall or Winter Detox
- 3 stalks of celery
- 3 whole zucchini
- 2 cups of string beans
- 1 cup of parsley
Dr. Bielers famous health broth recipe for energy, weight loss, and cleansing
Put 1 cup of water into a stock pot. Put the string beans in first and steam for about 5 minutes. Then put celery and zucchini into the pot and steam for another 5 - 7 minutes or until tender, but still crisp. Do not overcook. When done put the water that the vegetables have cooked in into the blender. Follow with the vegetables. Blend until liquefied. Add a teaspoon of raw unsalted butter and a large handful of parsley. Blend again until parsley is liquefied.
*Optional add 1 clove of garlic.
*Use organically grown vegetables whenever possible! Enjoy!
Blue Print Cleanse sounds too intense for us-- just juices, however their more moderate program, "Juice 'Til Dinner," combines liquids and juices with vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free foods. That actually sounds delicious! A sample dish and recipe....
