En route to Harbour Island. Journey makes the destination sweeter.

The journey is part of the destination.  Sometimes it's easier than others.  Sometimes it's a Florida mall before hours.

Harbour Island, Bahamas

En route to the paradise of Harbour Island, Bahamas, one of our favorite places on earth, there was a bit of a snafu in our travel plans.  The red eye from LAX to Ft. Lauderdale would land at 6am and we could easily manage to get our Nyquil and Ambien drugged seleves to Twin Air, a charter airline that services the Bahamian islands, for the 8am departure.   However, Twin Air decided to cancel the 8am flight shuffling us onto a 1pm flight leaving us hours to kill in Ft. Lauderdale before even Starbuck's had customers.

With our suitcases in tow, we had a taxi deposit us at at Euro Bread & Cafe- across from the Galleria Mall, not yet open.  The kind woman at Euro Cafe opened her doors a little early (before 7am) to let our bedraggled asses in.  The "coffee man" arrived at 7:30 am and fueled us up with some caffeine and one of the most delightful croissants we've ever had!  We managed to stretch out our "european  experience" til 9am when the Mall opened it's doors.

Galleria Mall Ft. Lauderdale

Wheeling our suitcases across the busy 4 lane avenue without crosswalks in the already blazing Lauderdle sun, the Galleria Mall beckoned to us like an oasis in the desert.  Air Conditioning never felt so good.  Alas, the mall might have been open but none of the shops were.

Enjoying another caffeinated beverage in yet another "european" court, Lucy face planted on the food court table and passed out until the 10am opening of some of the shops.  We skipped Dillard's and found treasures at Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap and Nine West, old favorites.

With our loot in tow, we finally made it to the Twin Air hanger and our 6 seater plane managed to take off inspite of the rain storm.

We are always happy to arrive at Harbour Island, which we've been visiting since we were little girls, but have never been as thankful to get here as we were yesterday!  A taxing journey can make the destination even sweeter. xo
