Morgan's Rock Hacienda and Eco-Lodge in NICARAGUA
Nicaragua is one of our favorite places in the world. Our love affair with the country, it's people, history and stunning natural beauty began Mary's freshman year at Princeton where she met Lucia Marin, a Nica who would become one of our best friends. AND serve as tour guide extraordinaire for us gringas many times over the years! We will be writing an all out, extensive piece on Nicaragua to get you excited before the holidays, but must tell you about one of the most unique and fantastic hotels we've ever found now (their low season rates extend through the end of October!).
Morgan's Rock is that perfect balance of luxury and nature. Set in the midst of a rainforest on a private beach, the property is just 20 minutes from San Juan del Sur, a fun and bustling little surf town (more on that in a few weeks). The 15 bungalows feel like immaculate yet authentic tree houses with all of the creature comforts.
Each bungalow has incredible views and outdoor areas to enjoy the local coffee grown on the property that is delivered to your door each morning. Or the local rum (Flor de Cana) at sunset!
The delicious and mostly organic food is included in your room rate-- you can also opt for a rate plan that includes a bottle of rum and local beers. There are all sorts of activities offered from yoga on the beach to nature walks (where you might see local monkeys, baby sea turtles and owls), kayaking, surfing, fishing-- you name it, they will organize it for you.
They can also facilitate tours of Nicaragua from exploring volcanoes to getting into some culture by a visit to Granada, considered the oldest city of the Americas! We love Granada and suggest spending a few nights there....
The staff is almost entirely local and so friendly and professional. They want you to love your time in their country and go out of their way for you.
