New England Summer! Chebeague Island, Maine.

I can't think of a better way to kick off the official start of Summer than a solstice wedding on a tiny island in Maine.  Chebeague Island is beautiful, sparsely inhabited (300 people year round), and perfectly serene.  The Chebeague Island Inn is the attraction on the Island. Originally built in the 1880s, it has 21 guest rooms, an incredible wrap around porch, a coastal bar and cozy living room with an original wood-burning fire place. While it has been thoughtfully restored, it holds onto its historical charm and that perfect fresh salt air meets wood burning fire smell.  We actually stayed in a rented house nearby but had our meals at the Inn.  Other dining options are Calder's Clam Shack or The Nibllic at the boat yard that has coffee and deli sandwiches. The island is petite and lovely, only 3.5 square miles, which we covered on bikes, boats and swims all weekend long!

Getting There:

There are two ferries that access the Island. A 15 minute one from Cousins Island (30 minutes from Portland), and a longer hour-long ferry from Portland.

We flew to Boston, rented a car, and took our time driving through charming New England towns. We stopped in Portland for an incredible lunch of oysters, crudo and chowder at  Eventide Oyster Co.

On our way back to the airport, a little "tired" from the wedding festivities, we stopped in painfully quaint Portsmouth, New Hampshire for a feast at Surf and enjoyed our table perched above the old harbor! I can wait to have more time to explore both Portland and Portsmouth on a future trip.
