Our best of fall in NYC -- WEST VILLAGE & MEATPACKING
WEST VILLAGE
Our favorite neighborhood in NYC is without a doubt the West Village. Charming small treelined streets that are home to gorgeous old brownstones, cozy little restaurants and shopping that has become compelling, every time we visit our love affair with this part of the city is renewed.
This visit we checked out some new stores in the neighborhood per the reccommendation of our very stylish and in the know friend Jessica Romm-Perez, an editor at Food and Wine magazine. She sent us to Otte (121 Greenwich Ave.) which is full of brands we love-- Rachel Comey, 3.1 Philip Lim, Rag & Bone. Again there was a range of prices and looks. They also sell shoes, boots, accessories.
We next headed to the chic and of the moment fab Cafe Cluny (284 W 12th St.) which is intimate, stylish and the pre-requisite cozy. The food was delicious and elegant yet still satisfying. Would love to return here for dinner!
After our lunch we checked out one of Jess's other recs, the flagship store of designer Adam Lippes, ADAM (678 Hudson St.). We love his clothes and tried on half of the store. Mary wound up with a stunning cream blazer and Lucy got a styled pencil skirt. His clothes are well made, fun and totally wearable.
For a glass of wine, we headed to our friend Jason Dillow's new wine bar Anfora. It is a welcome civilized spot to have a drink and catch up with friends.
MEATPACKING
The Meatpacking District has been developing and blossoming its head off for the last 10-15 years. The area is fully gentrified at this point with shops in most old butcher shops. Vince, Catherine Malandrino, Theory, and so many others all have outposts here. We had a delightful lunch with our Mom at the newly opened Standard Grill. Located on the ground floor of the Standard Hotel, the service was efficient and friendly, the setting perfect and the food really good. We will be returning!
This was a great trip to get us warmed up for some time in NYC over the holidays!
