Getting camera ready in ONE WEEK!

We were over the moon to get an email asking us to appear on a show for the Travel Channel called, "The Traveler's Guide to Life," where we would be interviewed about sisterhood, life lessons, etc. alongside the likes of Buzz Aldrin, Greg Louganis and other people we admire.  The excitement was tempered with a little panic as this offer came in as we were sitting in the airport in Mallorca last week after a well recorded few days of eating chocolate croissants, heavenly cheeses, pastas, and ice creams everyday, in addition to drinking more than our fair share of the local wine!  AND they wanted to shoot in one week!  We wanted to look our best as we've been hoping to work with the Travel Channel for the past three years and here was our chance.

We devised a plan....

1. NUTRITION

We followed a loose South Beach Diet plan for the week cutting out sugars (breads, pastas, cereals, crackers, fruit and alcohol).  Unlike the South Beach, we still had morning coffee.  It sounds brutal, but was actually easy and nice to cleanse a bit.  We ate lots of scrambled eggs with mushrooms, spinach, low-fat cheese; salads with grilled fish or chicken and grilled or baked fish or chicken for dinner with a green veggie and salad.  We also made big batches of Dr. Bieler's Soup which sounds disgusting but is actually quite good and helps with detoxifying, energy and creating balance/alkalinity in the body.

Dr. Bieler's Health Broth

Adapted from "Food is Your Best Medicine"

  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 3 whole zucchini
  • 2 cups of string beans
  • 1 cup of parsley

Put 1 cup of water into a stock pot. Put the string beans in first and steam for about 5 minutes. Then put celery and zucchini into the pot and steam for another 5 - 7 minutes or until tender, but still crisp. Do not overcook. When done put the water that the vegetables have cooked in into the blender. Follow with the vegetables. Blend until liquefied. Add a teaspoon of raw unsalted butter and a large handful of parsley. Blend again until parsley is liquefied.

* we add 1 clove of garlic.

*Use organically grown vegetables whenever possible! Enjoy!

2. EXERCISE

Only having one week, we like to do long hikes or runs and yoga.  We eliminate any kind of weights (and we only use light weights -- 5 lbs. or less) as we don't want to bulk up but rather lean out, and don't care what our beloved trainers tell us, we do notice a little bulking with weights!

3. GLOWY TAN, please!

Not wanting to invest the time or money in a spray tan, we headed to the drugstore and picked up Jergens Natural Glow for Medium to Dark skin.  After exfoliating in the shower, we applied two days in a row and the result was a subtle, natural non-streaky glow!

4. FACIAL

Our beloved facialist Dee Bartolo who works with A list celebs out of dermatologist Dr. Lancer's Beverly Hills office, has been keeping our skin looking fresh and clear for several years.  She is rather our secret weapon in the skin care department!!  We recently tried the "power peel" and love the results.  Skin feels smooth and radiant.  We love Dee!

5. TEETH

After all of the strong European coffees and red Spanish wines, we picked up the JV Crest White Strips which work in just two applications.

6. SLEEP

Luckily the jet lag coming this way worked in our favor and we were sleepy early and wide awake early in the morning!  We clocked the recommended 8 hours a night, which we always try to, but gets hard sometimes....

We had tons of fun at the shoot on Friday and will let you know when the show airs-- sometime in the Spring!!

Hopefully this helps for everyone out there who needs/wants to feel their best in a hurry for all of the upcoming holiday parties, vacations, etc.  We're all in it together!! xox
