Picasso, Frank Stella and Kandinsky for an appetizer, a two star Michelin restaurant for dinner....
Last Saturday with our Dad in town, we had the most splendid evening. Heading over to LACMA at 6pm, we strolled through the permanent collection basking in the presence of inspired and famous works by Matisse, Monet, Pissaro, Picasso, Frank Stella and Ed Rushka to name a few. The energy in a museum seems different at night- more romantic, more languid, calmer and slower allowing for greater appreciation. To sound heady.
Our plan had been to soak up some culture, and then head to the Stark Bar for a cocktail, located within LACMA. Unlucky for us, there was a Gala commencing on that side of the museum and the Bar had closed early. Usually it remains open until 11pm....
We were ready for some dinner and wine after all that art. Friends had recently been raving about Providence, one of four restaurants in Los Angeles to be awarded two Michelin stars (there are no three starred restaurants in LA, so two is as good as it gets!). Although it's been open for eight years and was awarded it's stars in 2008, somehow Providence had flown under our radar.
What awaited us at Providence, located in the heart of Hollywood, was fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! We opted for the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and each and every perfectly proportioned course was impeccable. A sampling: Bobby's Block Island Sea Scallops with smoked celery root puree, jamon serrano and pickled apple; Dutch Valley Farms Veal Tenderloin with roasted sweet scarlet grapes, fennel and chanterelle mushrooms; Pear & Cranberries Almond Cake with olive oil and burrata ice cream. And the wines! Unusual and unique- our favorites were German and Croatian and we'd never heard of them or the grapes before....
One of our favorite nights in LA in a long time! It was perfect for a family outing and would also make for a very impressive date night... Can't wait to repeat. You all should give it a go this weekend. Happy Friday! xox
