Planes, Trains and Automobiles isn't just a movie.... NYC Blizzard causes misery
Hello everyone!! We didn't fall off the face off the earth intentionally. BUT the blizzard that rendered NYC helpless, also rendered us unable to communicate as we have been reconfiguring travel itineraries so as to get to Costa Rica. The snow began Sunday and Sunday night we embraced the fun, adventurous nature of majestic, white, quiet city by meeting up with friends for dinner and drinks at Bond St. and Bowery Hotel for a night cap. This was made possible by our cousin Tim having a Nissan Armada-- basically a tank that seats 12 and tackles snow drifts like nobody's business.
The fun wore off with announcements of airport closures and our chances off getting on our 5am flight to Costa Rica were shot. We remained hopeful that we'd get out later the next day, but an airline (Lacsa-- the Costa Rican airline that we loathe and find completely incompetent) that is based in Costa Rica and had no information made it all the more a struggle. We spent all of Monday on hold with various airlines and airports, desperately trying to figure out a solution. Our only solution at 8pm that night -- which sounds and is crazy was renting a car in NYC and driving 15 hours to Atlanta to meet a flight -- the only flight leaving the states for Costa Rica in the next week that wasn't full. We drove all through the night stopping at 4am at a Comfort Inn in Oxford, NC, to sleep for 4 hours before setting off again at 9am Tuesday. A surprising travel tip-- Comfort Inns are quite deluxe for $80/night-- with perfectly good shampoos and lotions in the bathrooms, a full cooked hot breakfast included in the rate and a fitness center, we were frankly impressed.
We pressed on and reached our destination of the Atlanta International Airport with plenty of time to board our flight to Costa Rica... that was actually delayed! Thankfully only for a half hour. So we are sending this from Costa Rica-- very happily and will send more later!! Hope you all are having far easier time navigating unexpected travel snafus!!
Pictures to follow when the internet actually decides to function properly..... xo
