Park City has been a favorite getaway for us the last few years-- it is super easy to get to from California, incredibly quaint, and offers a plethora of skiing options.  As all of you who are parents know, time away (alone!!) is hard to come by.  When a visit from our mother dovetailed with Napper wrapping up a business trip in Salt Lake, we were quick to accept Lucy and my mother's generosity to stay with Ever while we had a much needed romantic ski weekend.

Lucy and I both obsess over researching and finding the, "cutest," "most delightful," "luxurious yet personal," "boutique" properties wherever we go.  We had loved The Washington School House, but this time wanted to ski at and explore Deer Valley which we had heard about for years as being sublime, but had never been.

My research led me to the Goldener Hirsch Inn in Deer Valley.  Pre-arrival, the Goldener Hirsch appealed as it was truly boutique with only 20 rooms; it is also family owned, and it is literally right at the lifts.  The splashier St. Regis and Montage are also certainly appealing, but one fears you could get lost in the shuffle as they each have hundreds and hundreds of rooms.  And hefty price tags to go with them!

Upon check-in in the midst of a blizzard, the Goldener Hirsch was like a cozy and quaint European hotel plucked from the Alps.  It is in fact named for the Hotel Goldener Hirsch in Salzburg, Austria.  Our junior suite had a fireplace and fluffy bed with perfect linens.  The bathroom was also noteworthy with a separate tub and rain shower.  The rooms feel like a great blend of old world charm with all the right modern touches.

The apres ski scene was super cozy with complimentary hot chocolate with all the fixings, as well as baked treats served each afternoon.  If you were after something stronger, the Moscow Mules at the bar with the signature and award winning four cheese fondue hit the spot!  Dinner by the fire -- get the Wiener Schitzel- as well as the delightful included breakfast, were highlights as well.  And as there are only 20 rooms, we had the snow surrounded hot tub to ourselves each evening.

The Goldener Hirsch was the ideal alpine home base in Deer Valley!  I can't wait to return.  It was perfect for a grown up ski weekend, but also would be a good set up for families as many of the rooms are suites with two rooms-- and everyone on property is beyond friendly.  Check it out for Spring Break!!
