Wild times in LONDON - Part 2 of the Bachelorette Weekend
Continuing the London Bachelorette Chronicle...
Saturday of Labor Day weekend was a big day for the Bride to Be, EAV (Elizabeth Ann Vlcek). We awoke to another warm and sunny (unusual and most welcome for London!) day.
A very international group of Elizabeth's friends gathered for a "boozy lunch" to honor her, tell stories and shower her with lingerie, the best kind of shower in my opinion! The spot for lunch was a private dining room upstairs at First Floor on the famous Portobello Road in Notting Hill. Even though the sunlight was streaming in through the windows, tall candelabras held lit candles and a painting of the Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus was all the more illuminated. Hopefully having her look down upon us means that some of our sins from the day are forgiven. We can hope.
After lunch we headed to one of Paul's (the Groom to Be) hot spot restaurant/bars, Bumpkin. There are several Bumpkin locations with plans for more (I am pushing hard for one in LA!!), but we just walked a few charming blocks to the Notting Hill outpost. Lucy and I both love Notting Hill and had walked past this Bumpkin almost two years ago and exclaimed how cute it was and we wanted to go! And so, I did! And I must return with Lu.
Paul and some of the girls had organized for the Bumpkin bartenders to teach us how to make some cocktails in the "Attic." The Attic is the top floor of Bumpkin and is a superb spot for a private party- with hardwood floors, huge windows overlooking Notting Hill, a dance floor complete with disco ball, an available DJ booth, your own bar offset by red lacquered walls and hound themed wallpaper, it would be a challenge not to have fun in this chic yet cozy space!
And did we ever have fun. Keiran and Keith, two of the bartenders at Bumpkin took their job of teaching us girls how to make cocktails very seriously. The gentlemen explained and demonstrated making a Mojito first and then the newly invented EAV, in honor of the bride to be. We divided into teams, each led by one of the "professors" to replicate each cocktail. There was a taste test following each creation and winners declared. Safe to say we were all feeling like winners when we left Bumpkin a few hours later.
Needing a little downtime, we headed back to EAV and Paul's flat for Thai and pizza, what else? In a genius move, Alia and Astri, the chief Bachelorette organizers had arranged for a professional make-up artist to come over and "do all of our eyes" for our big night out at Boujis, Paul's nightclub that is frequented by the likes of the Princes and A list pop and movie stars. We were all thrilled with our dramatic make up and felt ready to take on a little dancing....
Disclaimer: I haven't been to a nightclub in a verrrry long time. Having said that, Boujis is too much fun! The staff is friendly, professional and discrete, the music the perfect blend of top 40 dance hits and old favorites without the incessant techo "club music" I abhor. You must have one of Boujis' signature "Crack Baby" shots-- but beware, the champagne, vodka and passion fruit concoction is dangerously delicious! Just to name drop a touch, Madonna reportedly rang in the big 50 with Crack Baby shots. Good enough for Madge, good enough for me.
After dancing the night away, we headed home to recap the night! Check back for the third and final installment of our London adventures. No time for a hangover in London, let me tell you!!
