AND STILL PEACE DID NOT COME - Emily Holland's new book comes out today! Shining the light in the darkest corners and inspiring hope & change. - by Lucy
Emily Holland, a former classmate and friend is the co-author of an important book that comes out today. AND STILL PEACE DID NOT COME is the memoir of Anges Fallah Kamara-Umunna (Emily's co-author), a native Liberian woman who has dedicated her life to chronicling the stories of former child soldiers and their victims in both Liberia and refugees living in the US. In Emily's words, "the book weaves harrowing and hopeful stories of former child soldiers, warlord concubines, and Liberian refugee youth haunting the ghettos of Staten Island with the life of a woman that became their advocate and champion." By encouraging this vulnerable and traumatized population to share their stories, Agnes continues to help the healing of a country from the ground up.
Emily is someone we continue to be amazed and inspired by. After four years at ABC News and producing for CNN, Emily spent four years producing advocacy films for the International Rescue Committee. She worked on the documentary "Darfur Now," has written about Somali pirate hunters for Glamour, the Darfur crisis for Jane Magazine, and writes an a column for the Dave Eggers online publication McSweeney's Internet Tendency . She is currently getting her law degree at Berkeley, specializing in transitional justice and human rights.
Emily relates, "seeing this book become a reality is a dream. Ideally, my co-author and I hope it will shine a spotlight on a group of young people who have bravely shared their stories to overcome the unthinkable."
Congratulations Emily! Keep making the world a better place. Can't wait to read...
