Birthday "Getaway" in Malibu!
Lu spoiled me for my birthday with a "getaway" to Malibu for the night! Festivities commenced at Malibu Seafood with grilled fish, salad, french fries and a Beachy Cream ice cream sandwich complimented by a delightful Triennes rose (bring your own!). It was unseasonably sunny and hot for February and it felt like a summer day overlooking the Pacific from our picnic table.
After lunch, we browsed some shops at the Malibu Country Mart where I found myself a birthday bauble at J Crew. Lu had booked our two favorite Thai masseuses who come to you, to arrive at the Malibu Beach Inn, our home for the evening, to arrive at 5, so we hustled off to check in.
Our room on the third floor of the Malibu Beach Inn, one of their entry level Queen rooms, was fresh and cheery and cozy all at once. With beamed ceilings, a patio, fireplace and killer views of the Malibu Pier and Pacific, the only thing it was missing was a bathtub. Nevertheless, we loved it and didn't have time for long bubble baths anyway. The massages were heaven and we lounged around in our robes afterwards comparing notes on the year past and intentions for the year ahead.
Too soon it was time to get dressed and walk down the PCH to Nobu for dinner. We had our favorite kumquat cocktails and an assortment of ridiculously tasty sushi in the ridiculous scene that is Nobu Malibu. The people watching is legendary and absurd. Only in the Bu. Or Bev Hills.
We discovered milk and cookies had been delivered to our room at the Malibu Beach Inn which we had to sample before bed...
I thought my heart would be ripped out to be away from Baby Ever for a night and I did miss the little guy, but it was sort of amazing to wake up to the sound of waves the morning of my birthday at the ripe hour of 7:30! Lu and I had coffee and some fruit in the room, got to meditate and journal and then set off for breakfast at Malibu Farm on the end of Malibu Pier.
I love this place! Scandanavian by design, the food is all locally sourced and scrumptious. We sort of went overboard with egg sandwiches, grain pancakes (with candle!), "Be Well" beet shots and coffees. We rolled out and threw on our bathing suits -- it was that hot! -- in February!!-- and had an inspiring and cleansing beach walk along Carbon Beach.
What a way to start my year!! Thank you to the best sister on the planet. Can't wait to return the favor for your birthday?! xoxoxo
