The Wallace, Culver City....
Well Culver City is certainly a buzz on Friday nights! Rightly so, with so many culinary darlings to choose from. My newest discovery, thanks to a friend in the know, is The Wallace, which was well worth battling the crowded streets and overflowing parking garages.
Opened on November 30th by husband and wife team Michael and Carol Treich, the restaurant embodies rustic elegance at its best, from the decor (natural wood tables, antique light fixtures accented with candlelight), to a menu that features only the best local, sustainable ingredients and Chef Michael Treich's decision to only serve seafood deemed "safe and sustainable" by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's no surprise that Cheif Treich worked at Axe, one of my all time Venice favorites before becoming the Executive Chef for the SBE group. His wife, Carol, rounds out he equation by running the front of the restaurant and also being its sommelier - we love women that know their wines!
We dined decadently, and sampled much of nature's bounty inventively prepared! Don't miss the Grilled Cauliflower, with creamy parmesan almond bread crumbs and rosemary, or the Gruyere and Black Pepper Popovers with parmesan and chive butter. Also loved the Octopus and my favorite, if I had to choose one, was the Local Squid with black pasta and grilled asparagus. The menu changes based on what is freshand available, but I feel confident that any item on this menu is guaranteed to be delicious.
The cocktail menu is racy and original, with titled creations ranging from a Dream Catcher to Morning Sex...
Enjoy!
